Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), also known as Illinois Tech, is a prestigious private research university situated in Chicago, Illinois. With origins dating back to 1890, the institution took on its current name following the merger of the Armour Institute and Lewis Institute in 1940. Offering a diverse range of programs spanning architecture, business, engineering, law, and more, Illinois Tech holds a classification of “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity”. Notable faculty and alumni include three Nobel Prize laureates, two Fulbright Scholarship recipients, and a recipient of the National Medal of Technology. The university’s historical lineage can be traced to various 19th-century engineering and professional education establishments in the United States. Renowned for its association with modernist architecture, particularly through the influence of Dean of Architecture Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who designed its campus, Illinois Tech has also absorbed institutions like the Institute of Design, Chicago-Kent College of Law, and Midwest College of Engineering over the years.
